“I Hate You Then I Love You” - Lyrics
Performed by Celine Dion and Luciano Pavarotti
(Celine)
I’d like to run away from you,
But if I were to leave you I would die.
Id like to break the chains you put
Around me,
And yet I’ll never try.
(Pavarotti)
No matter what you do you drive me crazy
I’d rather be alone.
But then I know my life would be so empty
As soon as you were gone.
Impossible to live with you,
But I could never live without you.
For whatever you do
(Celine)
For whatever you do
(Duet)
I never, never, never
Want to be in love with anyone but you.
(Celine)
You make me sad.
You make me strong.
You make me mad.
You make me long for you.
(Pavarotti)
You make me long for you.
(Duet)
You make me live.
You make me die.
(Celine)
You make me laugh.
You make me cry for you.
(Pavarotti)
You make me cry for you.
(Duet)
I hate you then I love you.
Then I love you then I hate you.
(Celine)
Then I love you more.
(Duet)
For whatever you do
I never, never, never
Want to be in love with anyone but you.
(Pavarotti)
You treat me wrong.
You treat me right.
You let me be.
You make me fight with you.
(Celine)
I could never live without you.
(Duet)
You make me high.
You bring me down.
You set me free.
You hold me bound to you.
I hate you then I love you.
Then I love you then I hate you.
(Pavarotti)
Then I love you more.
I love you more
For whatever you do
(Celine)
For whatever you do
(Duet)
I never, never, never
Want to be in love with anyone but you.
(Pavarotti)
I never, never, never
(Celine)
I never, never, never
(Duet)
I never, never, never
Want to be in love with anyone but you.
But you…

Wow! now that is two classic borderlines engaging in the drama. Seen many of those in the office.
Dr jim
Thanks Dr. Jim. We would love to hear more about the type of drama you’re seeing in the office. For us, that drama is the drama of life. We can’t help but engage in it. It’s awesome, though it can be pretty hairy at times. What are your thoughts?
Dion and Pavarotti’s song so clearly shows the differences between men and women that we talk about in the Divine Dance of the Sexes, and that resonate with so many of our participants, that we had to share it with people.
For instance look at Pavarotti’s first verse:
“No matter what you do you drive me crazy
I’d rather be alone.
But then I know my life would be so empty
As soon as you were gone.
Impossible to live with you,
But I could never live without you.
For whatever you do”
Every man knows the feeling of being driven crazy by the woman in his life. Men are linear thinkers. To them, a woman’s thinking can appear random which is frustrating for men. Women are also more emotional. This can be hard for men because they prefer a steady, predictable state.
Yet despite this, every man (unless they’ve been hurt badly) is attracted to the motion and drama that women offer. They know women have something that men do not - an energy, a vitality, a beauty, an excitement - that is hard to resist. After experiencing it, it can be hard to live without it.
Dion’s section about half way down is great because it speaks to what it’s like being a woman.
“You make me sad.
You make me strong.
You make me mad.
You make me long for you.”
Further down she continues,
“You make me laugh.
You make me cry for you.”
She is talking about the motion, the drama and the changeability that women are. They can be feeling something in one moment and it changes the next. It is this energy of “woman” that makes things happen, that drives the show, that makes women so vital and attractive.
The whole song is filled with these little portraits of how it really is between men and women.
If anyone knows of other songs, movies, TV commercials, etc. that illustrate the energy and dynamic between men and women we would love you to leave us a comment below.
